Hello Church Family,
It’s hard to believe we are in week 11 of COVID-19. It seems like it’s been a lot longer than 11 weeks. So many things have changed in our world. And many things will never return to how it was before COVID-19.
One thing we do know is that the church will remain. When we Re-Gather, it will look and feel very different. But, we will continue to preach the Gospel and worship our Lord and Savior.
On Tuesday, our Church Staff and Church Council met to discuss the results of our Re-Gathering Survey. We want to thank everyone who responded to the survey. We had a total number of 266 responses, representing a total of 602 individuals.
In response to the question:, “Will you plan to attend an in person Re-Gathering worship service, with a target date of June 21st?”
- 39% said Yes
- 24% said No
- 35% said Maybe
Of the 239 individuals who said Yes, I plan to attend the Re-Gathering service on June 21st.
- 82 said they would like to attend a 9am service
- 157 said they would like to attend a 10:45 service
Due to social distancing concerns, we are able to seat approximately 335 people in our Worship Center. We are planning on using the Atrium for overflow seating if needed.
Based on these numbers, the Church Council and Staff believes it’s best for us to only have one Worship Service, at 9am and rebroadcast the service at 10:45am. Our target date is still June 21st. We will be continuing to broadcast on Cable TV, live-streaming and on the Radio.
Our desire and prayer is to be unified as one body of believers when we gather for worship. So, we will meet together in one service at 9am, with a blended style of worship that will be Christ-centered and God-honoring!
Many churches held their first services this past Sunday. In speaking with some of the pastors of these churches, they stated they had a lower number of people than they expected or had registered to attend. What they found is similar to what is occurring nationally as churches re-gather for worship.
We also spoke to local pastors about the steps they will be taking to re-gather. It was quickly determined re-gathering will look differently for each church. This is due to many things, but mainly how each church campus is designed and the number of entrances into each Worship Center. For Severns Valley, this presents a very unique problem. We have a very large Worship Center, which is great. The difficulty we face is due to four different ways to enter from four different parking lots.
Entering our buildings and guiding people to seats will be a multi-step process. And for that we will need a large number of volunteers for us to provide a safe and comfortable environment to worship.
Those who volunteer to serve will be serving the Lord, our church and our community in the very first regathering service here at Severns Valley.
From our Re-Gathering Survey question, “Would you consider volunteering to be on a team to help us re-gather?“
- 65 people answered yes
- We estimate needing 100+ people
Here are the opportunities to serve on Re-Gathering Sunday. You could serve:
- in the parking lots where we will have people in each of the 4 Parking Lots to welcome and to direct people to the correct entrance based on the parking area.
- on the sidewalks where you will direct people to the designated entrances.
- by opening and holding doors for people at one of the entrances.
- by giving direction inside the building to how the lines of people should flow and maintaining social distancing.
- by helping direct and seat people inside the Worship Center to the designated seating and also in overflow areas if needed
- by monitoring the restrooms
- by cleaning and disinfecting
- by serving as one of our medical personnel
Please let us know you are willing to serve by calling the church office and leaving your contact information, or by emailing Joe Thomas, email@example.com. You will then be contacted about the guidelines and requirements to be a volunteer and concerning the dates for on campus training before the regathering.
We will need people to serve for an undetermined time. We don’t know how long we will have to meet under social distancing restrictions. So, we need people who are willing to serve for the long haul. We began recruiting volunteers this week and will start training next week. Thank you Joe Thomas and your team for all you’re doing to get us ready to Re-Gather.
Over the next few weeks we will be sharing with you, vis the SV Update, specific information and instructions on:
- how we are preparing, cleaning and disinfecting our buildings
- how we will be entering our buildings for worship
As we close, let’s listen to what Paul has to say about how we as individuals and as a Church are to live and be known.
“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,” Philippians 1:27
You are greatly loved and missed,
Your Staff and Church Council
