Greetings SV.
What a joy it is to be before you once more again to update you on what the Lord is doing in the life of our church.
First of all, I was excited to receive so many correspondences from members of Severns Valley who were impacted by what the Lord said to them through God’s Word. There several individuals who believe that they may very well need to rethink if they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and let me tell you something that’s a beautiful thing because the heart of that message was that none of us want to be found unaware thinking that we have true salvation but there’s nothing in our lives that produced the fruit of repentance.
One of the fruits of repentance I believe will always be love for God and love for people which makes our mission statement so important. Severns Valley Baptist Church exists to love God, love people, and make disciples here, near, and far by cultivating a culture of grace. We want to be generous, we want to be renewed, we want to be accountable, we want to experience community, and we also want to do the work of an evangelist. All of these principles in our mission, vision, and values mean that we want to see our church holding one another accountable to look more like Jesus Christ.
The word accountability is a beautiful thing. This is why I am excited that our very own Pastor Jeff, this Sunday, will speak on the issue of accountability in church membership. I hope that you are praying for Pastor Jeff and I hope that you are preparing your heart to receive the Word of God from Pastor Jeff.
Not only that, I hope you are also preparing your heart to bring your students out. If you have students who are not involved in student ministry, as a parent it is your responsibility to make sure that they are here receiving the Word of God and receiving spiritual friendship, not only from the staff and volunteers but from other students who participate in the ministry, so this Sunday at 5 p.m. the doors will open, and at 5:30 the worship experience will begin. I know Pastor Zach has been preparing his heart and preparing his mind to engage our students once more with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am grateful to have a pastor who is so focused on seeing our students look more like Jesus Christ, so as a dad I have the responsibility to make sure that my teenage sons are actively participating in the ministry.
This is all we want you to know – that if we’re going to be a church that looks like heaven and if we’re going to be a church that has heaven’s mentality it will take accountability – accountability to God and accountability to one another. This Sunday, as Pastor Jeff is preaching, you will hear these things reiterated from scripture, so please, please, please, make sure that you are here at the Gathering so that we can worship the only true and living God together.
Remember our passage,
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: to him be glory both now and for evermore.” (2 Peter 3:18)
Amen, and I can’t wait to be with you Sunday.
Pastor Curtis
