Well hello beloved,
It’s a great day that the Lord has made. I’m rejoicing and I am extremely glad. Why? It’s sunny outside. I was walking around campus just thinking about the Lord’s grace on the life of our church and I can’t tell you how overjoyed I am to see how the Lord is working within various lives within Seven Valley Baptist Church.
We’ve had a great time thus far for the last three weeks looking at Membership Matters and how important it is for us to know our responsibility as members of the Lord’s church. With that said, we started out with preaching on regenerate church membership. Pastor Jeff, on the second Sunday, talked about accountability and connected the principle of accountability with our core values. Last week our very own Pastor Zach Burke brought the fire and preached on community, challenging our hearts to be vulnerable and knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ will seal us together to the extent that we trust His Word and we will trust one another. I’m really excited about how God is using this series and to make me desire to become a better member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.
Doctor Todd Gray, your Executive Director Treasurer, will preach this Sunday, Lord willing, and he’s going to help us to think about evangelism. What does it mean for us to spread a passion for the supremacy of God for the joy of all people groups here, near, and far, wherever you are, you want to let someone know that Jesus loves them. Dr. Gray is going to connect 1 Corinthians 3:6 and so if you want to study 1 Corinthians 3 I admonish you to do so. He’s going to show how it’s important for us to look for every opportunity to evangelize the lost at any cost. I can’t wait to hear God’s Word this Sunday, wherever I will be because I won’t be here at worship service, but I’m so glad we have a staff and leadership who are here even when I’m not present who will always focus on excellence in ministry.
The Lord is truly blessing us. He is in this place and I hope you can sense how good God is to our church family. In light of that, let me remind you that this Sunday I will be back in the evening for Discover SV. I can hardly wait to go through the process of membership with Tracy and the boys, learning more about this beautiful church called Severns Valley Baptist Church, going through the core values, constitution and bylaws, and seeing what it means to be an active member here at SV.
I have something in my hand here. It is a document that is extremely important if you are an American citizen. It is a copy of The Constitution. I carry it around and I read through it on occasion just to make sure I understand the governing documents for our Country. But not only that, there’s something as a member of a local church, and this church in particular, that I would say is probably even more important than the U.S. Constitution and that the constitution and bylaws of our local church at Severns Valley. I hope that doesn’t sound sacrilegious to you, but the point of church membership is knowing that the church of Jesus Christ is a local assembly that God has placed on this earth in order to do what the U.S. government cannot do, and that is to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ. And so even our constitution and bylaws for a church member have even more importance than our very own U.S. Constitution because our constitution and bylaws submitted and subordinated to Scripture that shows us what it means to be a fully functional member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.
I hope that if you are wondering, “What does it mean to be a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church?” that you show up for Discover SV. We are going to gather in the Worship Center. It begins at 5:00 pm and ends at 7:00 pm. You can learn all about the way that our church is seeking to do business because our whole business is the saving souls business. I hope that you will show up this Sunday for Discover SV because my family and I will be there to see you. Remember this verse. It’s a verse that captures my attention every time I think about our church,
2 Peter 3:18
but grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and to eternity.
Amen. God bless you, and as always, I can’t wait to see you.
Pastor Curtis
