SV Update 3.26.2020
Hello Church Family. We sure are missing you!
Walking around the church right now is very different. These are very different days. Days like none of us have ever seen in our lifetime.
We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak. We continue to listen to and follow the directions of our President and Governor by rotating our staff in the office, not having any gatherings over 10 people and having all our Worship Services via TV broadcast, online and radio. In keeping with these guidelines: We will continue having no On Campus: Worship Services, Programs, Activities and Events. We will maintain our 9am & 10:45am Worship Services via TV broadcast, online and radio until further notice.
What we are seeing from most National and State leaders is that the worst is yet to come. We have all seen the graph of the 1918 Spanish Flu and how two cities, Philadelphia and St. Louis responded. The point in this comparison is, we are just now entering the upward part of either of the curves. We must remain vigilant in observing spatial distancing and other preventative steps to keep ourselves and others safe.
Communication
Our plan is to “over communicate” what is happening with the church. We are using these tools to communicate with you during these days:
- Social Media: Facebook.com/severnsvalley, Instagram.com/severnsvalley
- Church website: sv.church/svupdates
- Mass emails
- Video updates: YouTube.com/severnsvalley
- And more in the future
Last week the number of viewers for our Facebook Live worship services was over 30,000! This isn’t a typo!!! Even in the midst of this crisis, God is using technology, social media and you to help us extend the Gospel to tens of thousands. Praise God! And keep sharing with your friends!
Maintaining and Establishing Routines
Maintaining routines is very important during these times. To help you, we are keeping to our regular Worship Service times on Sunday: 9am and 10:45am. We are also video recording our Core Class, I Will and making it available on Wednesday night at 6:30pm. If you haven’t been attending, now’s a great time to get caught up on all the classes you’ve missed by going to sv.church/online-videos.
Plans
Times like these help us to see what is really important in our lives. One thing we know is important to believers is Bible Study and Prayer.
Small Groups
This week many of our Small Groups have begun meeting virtually. We are doing this to help us remain in community even though we are separated by distance. These have been going really well.
SVstudents have 13 small groups meeting virtually during the week. Adult Small Groups are ramping up as well with 2+ groups having already met virtually and more meeting this week.
If you’re interested in joining a virtual Small Group please reach out to joe@sv.church or bryan@sv.church and they can direct you to one.
Prayer
Yesterday, we published a Prayer Calendar for our church family on our web site: sv.church/prayer-calendar. Each week we will be sending out an updated prayer guide for 6 days of the week. We will continue praying together when we gather together on Sunday for worship.
We believe God desires us to be known as a “A Praying Church.” A daily Prayer Point is also being posted on our Facebook and Instagram accounts.
In Closing
We truly do love you. If there is a way we can minister to you or someone you know, please contact us at info@sv.church or call the church office at 270.765.7822.
We are putting final plans together as to how we will continue to reach out to our church family and also to our community. Look for updates as to how you can join in and help us care for our church and our community. Keep up the great work of meeting the needs and taking advantage of the opportunities God is placing before you. Don’t forget to:
In the book of 2 Timothy we see Paul encouraging his little brother with these words that are so timely for us today.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and of sound judgement.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (CSB)
Let’s pray for God to help us not live in a spirit of fear, but to rely completely on His Spirit living within us giving us power, love and sound judgement as we walk daily with Him.
In Christ,
Your Staff and Church Council
